EPA Seeking Public Comments on St. Joe State Park

The Environmental Protection Agency is inviting comments from the public about the future management of St. Joe State Park. A recent Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis report has ended with recommendations that include, among others, putting controls in place to prevent public access. The report found that residual lead and zinc waste from past mining of the area had contaminated approximately 1,000 of the 8,200 acres in St. Joe Park, which may be detrimental to human health.

A public meeting on the subject has been called for Thursday, April 16, 2009. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Central High School, 116 Rebel Dr., Park Hills, MO. In addition, the EPA welcomes comments from the public. Written comments can be submitted through May 14, 2009 to:
